2017 Mail Art Exchange and The March Sustainable Souls Project Hastypearl

2017 Mail Art Exchange

I love it when TWO great things, overlap.

This posting is about just that.

Here’s why…

A while back, I saw a friends Instagram post about a Mail Art Exchange group that she was in. One of her followers asked if she could join the group. The reply was that it wasn’t an open group, and it was suggested that the follower start her own. Well, the mercy part of me, kind of felt sorry for the follower and I thought that I would contact her and invite her to join a group that I would start. Long story short, I contacted her 3 times (I didn’t say why) to ask if she wanted to join me in starting a Mail Art Exchange. She never replied.

So, I regrouped and approached an artist that I very much admired. She replied that she was thankful that I thought of her, but she had some very large projects and didn’t have time for a commitment. Understood.

Hmmm.

What did all of this mean? I knew that I was on the right track for starting a group. So, I backed up and thought about it. It was the right idea, I just hadn’t got to the Right people for the group. I took my time, and made a list of people that I felt like were the Right people. This time, I knew in my gut, that it was going to happen.

I made my first contact. She was ecstatic. Because I didn’t want to be in complete control, I asked her to ask two other people. Crazy, huh? What if she asked two ax murderers? She was way too sweet for that! She asked two more and they were both on board!

I then contacted two more ladies and they were also very excited about joining our little band. Limited to 6 only, with 2 only sends to each person in a whole year…it was soooo doable!

There is as Always…sooo much to be gleaned from this process! For starters, things that are supposed to happen…WILL. Things that aren’t supposed to happen…WON’T.

Period.

So, to say Thank You to my little band of 2017 Mail Art Exchangers, I made these note cards.

Cards for 2017 Mail Art Exchange participants

They had a second purpose.

The March Sustainable Souls Project topic is, Melting Polar Ice Caps and Sea Level Rise.

Yes, I’ve seen the maps and yes it’s a remarkable sight. Our Earth has undoubtedly been changing back and forth since its Creation. Of course, man is in the infancy of recording such levels. Check back in 100 or 1000 years, and there will probably be many cycles of swings back and forth, of those recordings.

My Thank You cards to the Mail Art Exchange participants, were made with my Hand Painted Papers and some Recycled Frosty Mylar.

Getting ready to Mail! So exciting! I couldn’t resist filling each card with Mixed Media goodies 🙂

It took a while to get everyones addresses, emails, websites or social media info exchanged, but my first send was finally ready!

My cards covers were made from this great leftover Frosty Mylar. I thought that the “frosty” reference was a direct connection to the reported changes in the Polar Ice Caps.

As I mentioned with my February Sustainable Souls posting, I am a Creationist.

Does that exclude me from being a responsible resident on the planet that I love so much? Of course not. If anything, it makes me compelled to respect what I know the Creator gifted me.

I found some beautiful scriptures that are so perfect for March’s topic and they reassure me that All is Well in His Hands.

Job 12:7-10

But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In His hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.

So many beautiful Sunsets…

Job 37 : 14-16

Listen to this, Job; stop and consider God’s wonders. Do you know how God controls the clouds and makes his lightning flash? Do you know how the clouds hang poised, those wonders of Him who has perfect knowledge?

These scripture assure me that All of Nature is in Great Hands 🙂

So, see? Two really great things…overlapped!
